As we know, October each year brings with it, a selection of revisited, updated or new legislation relating to employers and their employees.

Changes that came into effect as of 1st October 14 are:


National Minimum Wage Increases

Adults:                  Rose from £6.31 to £6.50 per hour

18-20:    Rose from £5.03 to £5.13 per hour

New Health and Work Service 2014

Earlier this year it was announced that the Government scheme which permitted employers to claim back Statutory Sick Pay, was being stopped. Many employers were shocked and questions arose such as “what will they do with the money saved?” and “how will I be able to sustain employees on sick leave without that help?”
 
Well! A new Government Service called ‘The Health and Work Service’ (HWS) is launching in the next few months.

Flexible Working 2014 Changes

30 June 2014 brought in a major update to the legislation on flexible working. Up until now, the right to request flexible working has only been the privilege of working parents to request an adjustment of their working arrangements to look after their children. There were set guidelines for how to request and how the request should be dealt with by employers.

The legislation was amended a number of times to cover older children and also dependant adults. The current legislation is considered by some to be a complete overhaul.
